Jackson Area Kiwanis Prayer Breakfast - 05/04/2017

You're invited to the Jackson Area Kiwanis Clubs Prayer Breakfast. It will be held Thursday, May 4, between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m. at Steve's Ranch, 311 Louis Glick Highway in Jackson.

Elaine Crosby, professional golfer and President of Lumen Christi High School, will be the featured speaker.

$10/person to attend, includes a buffet breakfast. Tickets must be purchased in advance by April 27. Call Betty at (517) 784-0615 or Phil at (517) 787-1639.

 

 


Jackson Aktion Club Bowl-A-Thon - 04/22/2017

Join the Jackson Aktion Club's Bowl-A-Thon on Saturday, April 22. The location is new: University Lanes, 16653 E. Michigan Avenue in Albion. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with bowling from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Cost: $15/bowler (includes 2 hours of bowling, shoes and lunch with drink), or $10/non-bowler (includes lunch with drink).

T-shirts are available for $10.

Kiwanis Sponsoring Kids Movies Over Spring Break - 04/03/2017

The Kiwanis Club of Jackson (with the Brooklyn Club) is sponsoring $1 kids movies at the Michigan Theatre in downtown Jackson, over Spring Break. Enjoy “The LEGO® Batman Movie”. On each day (April 3-7), doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the film will start at 2 p.m. Admission is only $1.

Kiwanis Club of Jackson Reviewing College Scholarships - 03/17/2017

The Kiwanis Club of Jackson is now reviewing applications for college scholarships. The deadline was March 17. All applicants will be notified, whether they will receive the $1,000 scholarship or not.


Kiwanis Part of Women's Expo - 03/11/2017

Make plans to say hi to Kiwanis while attending American 1's Women's Expo, Saturday, March 11. It will be held at Parkside, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Racing for Dollars:a Success - 02/26/2017

Thank you to all who made our 11th annual Racing for Dollars benefit on Sunday, February 26, 2017, a success! As we watched the Daytona 500 live on big screen TVs, guests enjoyed a delicious meal, catching up with friends, and the chance to win great prizes and cash. 

Since 2007, Racing For Dollars has raised and distributed more than $298,000 in our community. This year, the event raised funds for St. Luke’s Clinic, A.D.A.M. – Another Day Another Memory, the Kiwanis Club of Jackson in support of youth programs, the Jackson Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee and the Rotary Foundation of Jackson County. Kiwanian Celebrates 100th Birthday - 01/30/2017

Monday, January 30, is Kiwanian Harold Miller’s 100th birthday, but we celebrated with him during our Friday meeting on January 28. We ate delicious cake and sang him Happy Birthday. Guest Mary Rose Steins played the piano so Harold didn’t have to “work.” Jackson Mayor Bill Jors read a Proclamation in honor of Harold, mentioning his musical contributions to the city, as well as his volunteer efforts. The Mayor thanked us for including him, and said he has had the privilege of visiting many service clubs and we are the biggest and best club in the area. He then proclaimed January 30 as Harold Miller Day.

Chili Golf Classic: 135 Golfers Enjoyed the Day - 01/28/2017

The 31st annual Kiwanis Chili Golf Charity Classic is now in the books. It was Saturday, January 28, at Hankerd Hills Golf Course, in Pleasant Lake. 135 golfers enjoyed teeing it up on this cold day. We had door prizes, 50/50 drawings, trophies and more and enjoyed chili, hot dogs and brats.

Granite Blocks Available to Support Kiwanis Park - 01/24/2017

Make a difference in a child's life while leaving a legacy. Purchase an engravable block that is set within the pillars of the front entrance to the Kiwanis Park. The Kiwanis Foundation of Jackson still has blocks available. You can express your words, whether it be in honor of someone or a business or in memory of someone, or something of that nature. Each block costs $125 and is a permanent legacy. The park is at the corner of N. Elm Avenue and Blakely Street.

Kiwanians Raise Funds for Shoes and Boots for Local Kids - 12/16/2016

On Friday, December 16, Kiwanians sold Kiwanis newspapers all over Jackson County, in exchange for donations. The money raised will pay for shoes and boots for needy students attending Jackson Public Schools. This is the 98th year Kiwanis has held the Newspaper Sale.

The Kiwanis Club of Jackson partnered with Frost Elementary School students to feed the hungry on October 27. In just a few hours, they packaged about 10,000 meals.

Kiwanis Disc Golf Course Set to Open in 2017 - 09/21/2016

The baskets have been bought, the course has been designed and the funding has been determined. A disc golf course next to the Ella Sharp Park Golf Course off Fourth Street is expected to be open by summer 2017.  

The Kiwanis Club of Foundation donated $15,000 for this effort and will be called the Kiwanis Course. It will include 18 holes and two practice putting greens.  The course will be open during normal park hours and be free to use. Discs – including a driver, mid-range and putter – will be available at the current golf course club house.


Kiwanis Club's Donation Will "Put Smiles on Children's Faces" - 08/27/2016

The Kiwanis of Jackson is pleased to announce it has donated $500 to Big Brothers Big sisters. The money will go towards the purchase of 100 gifts (valued at $5 each) for children attending its Breakfast with Santa event on December 10. Executive Director Tony Hollow (pictured here) writes, Thank you Kiwanis Club for your generous donation. It will put plenty of smiles on children's faces at our annual event."


Kiwanis Club Donates to Child Advocacy Program - 08/17/2016

The Kiwanis Club of Jackson is pleased to announced it has donated $1,500 to the Catholic Charities Child Advocacy Program. This program counsels and advocates for children who have been sexually abused. The children are referred to this program from the courts.

 


Donation from Kiwanis Club of Jackson Helps Student "Run Really Fast" - 06/30/2016

Meet Demarion, a second grader, and his teacher Tammy Bosom, from Cascades Elementary School in Jackson. Demarion was in desperate need of a pair of shoes that fit him correctly. Thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Jackson's Shoes and Boots program, Demarion
picked out a striking pair of Nike shoes at no cost to him. In the past, he has always worn hand-me-downs or used shoes from local thrift shops. He was all smiles today and says, "I'll be able to run really fast!"

Administered by the Jackson Public Schools, this program fits hundreds of pre-school through twelfth grade students in regular or orthotic shoes and boots. The Kiwanis Club of Jackson funds the project, at a cost of...
